Keeping On

I am still here, and I am still sewing. This quilt is massive! And taking a bit longer than I anticipated. I think I only have four blocks to go...

I've removed some yellow and replaced it with pink and greens, I'm much happier with it now. Though of course there's plenty of yellow in the photo above...

Horizon by Kate Spain for Moda

Horizon by Kate Spain is due for release in September but I've managed to get my hands on a few pre-cuts; we currently have Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls and Fat 1/8 bundles. Layer Cakes are on backorder.

Once sold out, these items cannot be restocked until their official release.

Raspberry Ice Cream

It might be winter, but there is always a place for ice cream in my life. I had some raspberries in the freezer that I picked at the Kinglake farm back in January that was just begging to be used.

I used this recipe, though there are many around. Just make sure not to cook it too quickly or your eggs curdle.

And I've got this cute container especially made for home made ice cream.

So yum!

Fresh Progress

Just a little progress update, to prove I am spending time at my sewing machine. I've finished 24 of the 64 'units' for this quilt and it's already massive! Quilting it will be a little daunting...

Keeping Fresh

After a month away from the sewing machine, it's good to be able to get back into the swing of things. Blocks for Fresh are coming along nicely as I work on four sub-units at a time.

This is going to be one epic quilt when it's done. So much so that I'll have to specially order batting that's big enough!

Miss Kate by Bonnie and Camille

I swear their fabric ranges just keep getting better! I have a limited number of Miss Kate pre-cuts in stock; once they're gone, they won't be restocked until approximately September.

Lunch with Kate Spain

I was checking my email on the way to the airport when I saw one from Pete Spain, husband of Kate Spain. They had seen that I was going to be in the US and asked to meet me! As it happened, I was going to be driving from New York City to Boston, so we were able to stop in for lunch on the way.

I was greeted with a hug and it was immediately clear that we were going to get on like a house in fire. I happened to have one of my quilts in the car, so that came in for show and tell, and approval by one of the three cats.

Then Kate took me up to her studio to show me how she designs her fabrics. I took a few little snaps of some of the work that went into her upcoming line Horizon. These are some of the prints done by hand.

I love the jade greens in this line.

I also got to see strike-offs of the next line, but it's still top secret.

Kate then took us on a walk around the area, and we returned to the house for lunch. Too soon it was time to get back on the road and head for Boston. But not before Kate had loaded me up with a heap of her goodies and a promise to catch up at Quilt Market in Houston.
