Wascally Wabbits

I've developed a bit of an obsession with making a bunny softie; no real reason other than a distraction from quilting Summer Wind.

First I found a free pattern online, and whipped one up. It's cute, but too fiddly to make the arms and legs separately then stitch them in.

Then I spent ages trying to draw up a pattern, and lets just say I'm a quilter, not a designer. Ive got the ears and arms right, but I think the lower body and legs are a bit too small. Plus I got some major puckers happening in the arm pits. The face is actually rounded, just not visible due to lack of innards.

Any tips, hints, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kate!
The wabbits are cute!
Did you stitch in the arms & legs (of the first bunny) when you sewed together the parts of the body? When I made a softie like this, I simply pinned the stuffed arms & legs in place and when turning the body they were already attached...
A little tip regarding your 1-part-bunny: you may want to "strangle" it with a colour matching embroidery floss so that the head is more "pronounced" (the simple bear in one of the Tilda-books is made like this...
You can hide it with a ribbon...

Maybe lengthen the legs on the one piece bunny. Did you clip under the arms before you turned it? Raising the arms a little may eliminate some of the puckering, too. Good luck.

As Jeanne suggested you need to clip the seam allowance around any curve as close to the stitching as possible and the puckers will disappear when the bunny is stuffed. It is also a good idea to use quite a small stitch length for the seams as this give added strength. Your bunny is going to be extra cute.
