Amost Finished...

It took a little longer than expected; my Friday's keep getting stolen by schools that need relief teachers...

...but she is quilted, and awaiting binding now. Hopefully this Friday. I actually turned down a day of work today just to have some time for me (plus a sneaky coffee and cake with a friend).

For the first time ever, I had a class the other week that made me insanely glad that I'm not a full time teacher. Lovely school, but disrespectful kids. It required some serious retail therapy, and I finally treated myself to a bag I'd been eyeing off. Spencer & Rutherford do the most gorgeous bags, and I love that they are handmade here in Australia.
I've also broken my "no markets over winter" pledge and booked in the Boutique Market for next month; I had a great time in March and am looking forward to doing it again.

Woodland by Natalie Lymer

Finally Woodland has been reprinted and delivered, albeit without the pink fabric that I ordered (will be here soon).

I've only got in a small sample of the range, but once the pink arrives I will put together some fat quarter bundles. Too cute!

To all the mums out there, hope you are having a fabulous mother's day!

As Promised

When I said I was giong to get back to normal, I was serious. So today I popped into my local quilt shop and picked up batting for my Circa 1934 quilt...

I made a little space on my lounge room floor, spread her out, and got to basting.

My poor knees really arent made for crawling around on the floor. But she is all basted and ready for quilting, probably just stipple, but that's the easiest way to get my quilting mojo going.

I'm looking forward to having a "finish" this year!

The Easiest Chocolate Cake

Doesn't everyone love a good chocolate cake? It's my mum's birthday today (is a big one), and I've got the yummiest chocolate cake baking in the oven right now. It's so easy that it's one of the first cakes I ever cooked on my own.

From the PWMU cookbook.
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup cocoa

Beat egg whites until stiff, then gradually add sugar and egg yolks.
Put  cocoa, water and butter in a saucepan and bring to the boil.
Sift flour, cream of tartar and bicarb soda and add to egg mixture.
Then fold in boiling chocolate mixture.
Divide between two greased sandwhich tins (I line the base and flour the sides), then bake in a moderately hot (190C) oven for 20 mins.

I like to stack mine with a heap of whipped cream in the middle then dust with lashings of icing sugar to finish off.

A Return to Regular Programming

I've been a bad blogger this year! Between a new job, a new man, and quite a few new markets, there has been next to no time for me to do any sewing for myself.

My poor Circa 1934 quilt (and backing) has been hanging on the back of a dining room chair for about two months...and I promise this is going to change! I'm taking the winter months off from doing markets so I can have a little more me-time, and Circa 1934 is first on the list.

I'm also super excited that the FQS Mystery Designer BOM will be starting soon...I'm very much looking forward to seeing Vintage Modern in person too. Not long to go now!
