Vintage Modern Fat Quarter Bundles by Bonnie and Camille

I've managed to scrounge up some lovely Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille and have a number of fat quarter bundles available.

Six fat quarters is $40, 12 for $80. I have only two more full sets of 12 with no duplicates, after that any set of 12 will have one repeated fabric. Please go here to purchases.

The Wedding Quilt

A lovely friend of mine got married last weekend, and what better gift than a handmade quilt. The invitation specifically requested second hand, homemade or hand made presents, so a quilt with fabric scraps was absolutely perfect.

I dug out all the bits of Vintage Modern left from the 2012 BOM, then added any other bits of Bonnie and Camille fabric I has on hand. On the back I used the Ikea number print left over from my Scrappy Tripalong.

I'm so pleased with how it turned out, and both the bride and groom were very happy to receive it.

Scrap Quilt

When I finished the 2012 BOM quilt, I packed away all the leftover fabric, knowing there was enough to start another quilt, but having already made two Vintage Modern quilts. Then I got an invite to a wedding, and a little light bulb went off inside my head.

So I cut as many 8" squares as possible, adding in a little Happy Go Lucky and Scrumptious and I think even one piece of Bliss, stitched like a maniac, and it was done!

(excuse the ipad photo)

Just need to get this one quilted, and the Star Blossoms quilt, before Christmas. And guess what?! This is my 500th blog post!

2012 Designer Mystery BOM

I finished the binding earlier in the week, and would you believe, I forgot to blog it! Sorry the photos are a tad bright, its quite warm and sunny here in Melbourne despite it still being Winter.

Fabric is Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

All twelve blocks are quilted with a circular feather. Flying geese with stipple, the stripes with an up and down pattern. And the borders with a loopy design. I left the sashing strips unquilted.

Now to decide if (and how) I can hang it on my bedroom wall. I've never hung a quilt so any suggestions are welcome.

Work in Progress Wednesday

After working full time for the last two months, its been a relief to go back to part time this week. We all know what free time is for: sewing!

My Work in Progress (or WIP) is the 2012 Designer Mystery BOM. I've been sneaking a little time here and there between other commitments, but Wednesday is all mine!

I've got just two of the 12 blocks left to quilt, then the sashing and borders. So close to the end I can almost smell it.

Once I'm done I will finally make a start on piecing Star Blossoms, though I don't think I'll get it finished before I go on holidays. All the pieces are cut, and currently stored in a Decor pastry tub (idea courtesy of Badskirt).

The tubs are perfect for a layer cake or a quilt that's cut and ready to piece, and only cost around $10 or so. And they stack up nicely so you don't end up with a big mess on your sewing table.

A Little Down Time

With an unexpected day off work I've finally made a start on quilting my 2012 Block of the Month quilt. It was basted a week ago but this is the first bit of spare time I've had to make a start.

I'm working with a feather design in each block using my usual tracing paper method. I love not having to mark the actual quilt.

 Stipple in the flying geese.

And a back and forth design in the stripes.

I think I might run a couple of straight lines down the sashing but I'm not quite decided yet.

For info on using tracing paper, please see this post, and feel free to ask any questions.

Sunday Sewing

I've been pretty sick this last week so sewing time has been pretty much non-existent.
I managed to rustle up just a little motivation on Sunday and whipped up this reversible bag.

It uses less than a metre of fabric and didn't take all that long. It will be for sale at my next market, and depending on interest, there may be a few more in the future.

Change your mood, change the colour...

I'm also tossing up the idea of a slightly different, two handled version.

2012 Mystery BOM Flimsy

Borders are done! A little more fiddly than expected due to having to remeasure all the borders but its done!

Hopefully Friday I can pop out for batting for this and the Scrappy Tripalong quilt. Any quilting suggestions for this one?

Tip Toeing Towards the Finish

Rows are assembled, just the borders to go!

My blocks are a tiny bit smaller than they should be so I've had to adjust the sashing but nothing too major. My sewing machine must eat the extra...(and my 1/4 inch seams are perfect).

2012 BOM Block Twelve

And we've come to the very last block!

Now to finish the quilt top.

2012 Mystery BOM Progress!

Yesterday was a little crazy with the Fandango bundles running off the shelf, but before everything went nuts I got time to start assembling the 2012 Designer Mystery BOM quilt.

I've only stopped because block 12 hasn't arrived yet! Hopefully it isn't too far away. The weather in Melbourne is terrible right now so it's perfect for being snuggled inside working on a sewing project or two. (Excuse the wet spot on block 10, I managed to drip something on it)

I also spotted one of the newest Fig Tree patterns and I have to make it. Must finish a few other projects first though!

2012 BOM Block 11

I can't believe we've almost come to the end! I really love this block; simple but stunning.

2012 BOM Block Ten

We're almost there! Bock 10 is Sunday Drive by Minick and Simpson. Gorgeous! Got a little distracted with the direction of my houndstooth but never mind.

Coming along ok with my wrist; still quite sore but nothing gets between me and Vintage Modern.

Whoops

Normally I've got plenty to show off after being home on a Friday, but not this week; instead of being productive I tripped over Bella and sprained my wrist.

I got my BOM block all cut out, but didn't get the chance to piece it after having to duck out to the doctor; I can't put any pressure on it so cutting any fabric is a bit difficult.

Lots of fat quarters cut for my store too.

My Cuzco quilt is still waiting for binding, I didn't have quite enough backing fabric left so I've ordered in half a meter. And I'll be at Huckleberry Market in Mornington tomorrow, so there's not much time left for sewing! Hope everyone else is having a productive weekend.

2012 BOM Block Nine

Block Nine is 'Lakeside Retreat' by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts.

Gorgeous blocks, but all those seams were a nightmare. I had to flip a few to get the block together and it's not perfect, but I'm sticking with it. That centre print is one of my most favourite from Vintage Modern.

2012 BOM Block Seven

Welcome to 2013!

Block 7 arrived over Christmas, and despite it being 40c today, I plugged myself in at the sewing machine. My pressing leaves a little to be desired, it's top hot!

Block 7 is "moonlight serenade" by Sandy Gervais.

I've also been taken in by the 'scrappy tripalaong' which has been booming over on Instagram. It's such a simple idea with stunning results. So I've dug out all the random fat quarters I've collected over the last few years, and am hoping to dig in as soon as the temperature drops.

Vintage Modern Hopscotch

What can I say except, finished!

I've lost track of just how long I've plodded away on this quilt for, but I know it was quite a few months. Hopefully I'll be a little more productive in 2013.

Fabric is Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille for Moda
Pattern is Hopscotch by Thimble Blossoms (ie. Camille)

Definitely one of my favourites ever.

Hope everyone has awesome plans for NYE, all the best for 2013!

Can You Believe It?

I almost can't...but Hopscotch is done!

I finally managed to finish that last little bit of quilting over the weekend in between a hectic schedule. My grandma is in hospital at the moment so there hasn't been much spare time over the last couple of weeks.

I've chosen the blue with the small floral buds for the binding; it's one of my favourites! Hopefully I'll get that done soon, then I'll probably take the quilt away with me over christmas to sew on in the evenings.
