Cheerio Quilt

Whoops. I did finish her two weeks ago, but I've been swamped since then. But I'm so pleased with how she turned out.

I used an aqua print for the back. And of course red scallops for the binding.

Might need to hang her on my bedroom wall!

It's been a busy time at Bella's Patchwork, with Quilt Market followed closely by Australian Quilt Market. There are so many great new fabrics and notions in the shop, and some great sales too.

Night Sky in Paradiso

This gorgeous bundle of Paradiso has been sitting by my desk for a few weeks now, while I've contemplated just which pattern will work perfectly with it. I put it to the vote on Instagram and Facebook, and finally decided on Night Sky.

I split the bundle out into its colour-ways.Then decided on which prints for the large stars.

And for the little stars (that lovely stack at the back).

I can't wait to see how it all comes together!

Binding Cheerio

I made the most of being on sick leave and got my Cheerio quilt basted and quilted.

Just need to finish the binding.

My next project which I'm really looking forward to is going to be with Kate Spain's Paradiso. Pink are blue are a winner for me. Then I'll probably head towards Horizon unless something else catches my eye before then.

Quilt Market Giveaway!

One of the most important parts of Quilt Market: all the little freebies! Most schoolhouse sessions have goodie bags, and a lot of the booths I visited also had little freebies to share. And it's only fair to share the love, right?

What can you win?
There is an Aurifil bag, two packs of Aurifil thread of varying weights, two mini charm packs (Clara's Garden and Country Orchard), a Kona fat quarter, a charm pack of The Reclaimed West from Timeless Treasures, a Clover tape measure, the pattern Fenced In (not pictures), and a Moda Collection For A Cause charm pack.

How to win.
You have two ways to win.
1. You can leave a comment here telling me which upcoming fabric you are most looking forward to, or something from market that you loved seeing.
2. Pop over to my facebook page (www.facebook.com/bellaspatchwork), click "like", then leave a comment here to let me know.

When?
I'll close this off at 5pm next Saturday, 15/11 (Melbourne time). So hop to it!

Bella's Patchwork Goes to Quilt Market 2

There were so many booths, I couldn't possibly take photos of them all. This is a snapshot of some of my highlights.

A little preview of Wildflower Meadow by Melly & Me for Riley Blake.

So many minis by Carrie of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.

A gorgeous fabric display in the Free Spirit booth.

Heather Bailey.

A corner of the Cotton + Steel booth.

A quilt displaying the new fabrics by Amy Butler for Free Spirit.

And into the Moda booth. Gardenvale by Melbourne gal Jen Kingwell. Her line is massive to allow for her signature scrappy look.

Paradiso by Kate Spain. This quilt is definitely on my list.

Aloha Girl from Fig Tree Quilts.

I also managed to collect up lots of little goodies as I wandered around the market. There will be a giveaway coming shortly! In the meantime, Paradiso pre-cuts have arrived and are absolutely gorgeous.

Bella's Patchwork Goes to Quilt Market

I was incredibly lucky to spend a few days in Houston last month to attend International Quilt Market. Attending is the dream of most quilters, and I had been planning the trip for over 12 months. I certainly wasn't disappointed!

The market is held at the ginormous convention centre in Downtown Houston, and alongside the market as some amazing quilt displays. The one I was most excited to see was the red quilt exhibition that was in New York City a few years ago.

Besides seeing all the new and upcoming fabrics, I was also excited to meet all the designers that I have long admired. There was Camille from Simply Retro showing off the lovely Daysail.

And Kate Spain, who greeted me with the hugest hug. I am totally in love with Paradiso.

And the delightful Vanessa from V&Co.

And Katy Jones of I'm a Ginger Monkey. She was a delight to meet and I walked away with a few of her books.

The first day of the market is School House, and in a break between sessions I ducked into the bathroom, only to find Kate Spain and Joanna Figuroa getting ready for the Moda School House session. Aren't they the cutest!

I took a million photos and will get them posted over a few days. But in the meantime, all my loot from Sample Spree is available in the shop (minus a few I've stashed away for myself of course). You can find them here.

Daysail and Quilt Market

We've got a couple of Daysail layer cakes in the shop, from the lovely Bonnie and Camille.

Tomorrow is the last day to get your orders shipped before I head to Quilt Market! I'm so excited for my first visit, and hopefully will be coming home laden with fabric goodness. So the shop will be closed 23-31 October. Keep an eye on my Instagram for updates direct from Houston.

Pulled Pork Burgers

Who doesn't love pulled pork? I've been wanting to give it a try for ages, so we invited a few friends over for lunch and gave it a shot. And it was amazing! This is how I did it.

Pork: I used a rolled pork shoulder. Remove the netting and the rind. Pat down and rub with olive oil, the coat with spice rub (recipe below). In the bottom of a heavy casserole dish put one slice onion and several sliced garlic gloves, and one cup of water. Sit your pork on top and let rest in the fridge overnight.

Some 4-5 hours before you want to eat the pork, put the dish in the oven and turn on to 150C. At this point I went back to bed for a couple of hours....

Spice mix:
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon packed golden brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 1⁄2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper

BBQ sauce. Combine, bring to boil then put aside.
1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup water or apple juice
2 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp hot pepper sauce
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Slaw

Dressing
1 cup good quality mayonnaise
3 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp Tabasco
juice of 1/2 lemon
Sea salt to taste

2 granny smith apples, finely julienned
1 small to medium white cabbage, shredded
8 jalapenos finely diced (reduce quantity if you don’t like heat)
1/2 bunch coriander, finely chopped
4 spring onions, finely chopped

Check the pork, it should fall apart when you stick a fork into it. I took mine out of the oven and let it sit for a little while. Then remove from the pan, and use two forks to shred or "pull" the pork. Return to the pan and mix through the onion/garlic mix. Also add enough BBQ sauce to your liking and even a bit of spice mix if you want.

Toast some brioche buns, top with pork and slaw mix and you are ready to go!

Cheerio

She won't be quilted for a few weeks because....I'm off to Houston for International Quilt Market! As a result, the shop will be closed from 23-31 October. Excited!!

Cheerio Progress

After a quick game of block-shuffle to sort out my colour combinations, assisted by Miss Bella of course, it was finally time to get these blocks assembled!

They got together quite easily once you work out how to line up the angled seam. I already have 10 of the 42 blocks done!

Some blocks will be high-contrast, others low, and some a little in between. I'm quite liking them so far!

Fat Quarter Bundles from Dashwood Studio

I'm always trying to find new fabrics to stock in the shop. I had one of my reps visit last week and these cute bundles caught my eye.

They are from UK fabric house Dashwood Studio and are quite delightful.

Retro Orchard contains 8 fat quarters.

September Blue contains 10 fat quarters.

Cheerio

I've been hoarding a Miss Kate fat eighth bundle and Cheerio seemed to be the perfect pattern.

I got all the coloured squares cut last week.

And had a mammoth session cutting 420 background squares last night.

Currently chain-piecing the main part of the blocks. Loving it already!
